Lifetime PVG membership has ended. Every volunteer in Scotland, whether they work with children or vulnerable adults, now sits on a rolling 5-year renewal cycle, and coordinators without a system will miss deadlines.
PVG Pal brings your whole safeguarding workflow into one place: applications, policies, references, training, incidents, audit prep and reporting. One platform instead of the spreadsheet, the filing cabinet, and the pre-inspection panic.

One product, every major Scottish governing body framework built in. It adapts automatically to your organisation type
Since July 2025, allowing an unchecked or barred volunteer into regulated work is a criminal offence, and organisations, and in some cases coordinators personally, can face prosecution. The scope of who needs a PVG has widened, and since April 2026 lifetime membership is gone: every volunteer now sits on a rolling 5-year renewal cycle. Most coordinators are still managing all of this with a spreadsheet and hope.
And PVG is not just for children's work. It applies equally to roles involving vulnerable adults: grief support groups, dementia befriending, mental health drop-ins, disability clubs, food bank case workers.
And PVG tracking is only the beginning. Most coordinators also own the annual policy review, the safeguarding panel, safe recruitment and references, volunteer interviews, incident recording, training, consent forms from parents, the other credentials each role needs, annual reporting, and audit prep, scattered across a folder, an inbox, and a spreadsheet, with nothing tying it together.
Most coordinators are doing their very best with what they've got, but they live with a quiet worry. Have I covered everything? If the auditor walked in tomorrow, would we actually pass? That worry is rational. The job has outgrown the tools.
Your role has gone from important to legally non-negotiable. PVG Pal gives you one system for the whole job, so you can focus on safeguarding the people in your care, not chasing the paperwork that proves it.
The PVG scheme landscape has shifted significantly in the past year. If you're still managing compliance the old way, you're exposed.
The mandatory scope of the PVG scheme expanded, bringing more roles and organisations into the requirement net. Trustees, committee members, and new role types now need PVG clearance.
Criminal offences were introduced for organisations that fail to carry out proper PVG checks, and coordinators can now face prosecution, not just civil penalties. At the same time, more roles were brought into the regulated activity net, widening who needs a PVG.
Lifetime PVG membership ends. Every scheme member now faces five-year renewals, meaning coordinators need to manage an ongoing compliance calendar, not a one-time check.
Your role just became legally critical. We're here to help.

AI builds your policy
Swimming, gymnastics, netball, sailing, snowsports, athletics. Most of Scotland's sporting bodies (SGBs) route PVG applications through VSDS, where credentials matter almost as much as clearances and parents consent to everything from photos to residentials. PVG Pal handles the lot.
VSDS (Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services) is the free government-funded service that every non-church organisation must enrol with before submitting a single PVG application. The process is simple but poorly explained. PVG Pal walks you through it step by step: we tell you what the online form needs, what happens after you submit it, when VSDS will contact you, and we hold your Enrolled Body Code the moment it arrives. Not enrolled yet? No problem, we'll still set up your club and prompt you when you're ready.
First aid, safeguarding in sport, BASI levels, coaching certificates, lifeguard qualifications, UKCC awards: define which credentials each role needs, and volunteers see them as a checklist. They snap a photo, forward a certificate email, or (soon) send a WhatsApp, and our AI reads the document and pulls out the issuing body, expiry date, and qualification level automatically. Their wallet updates, your dashboard updates, and the requirement goes green. No chasing. No filing. No guessing when things expire.
Photography, match-day transport, residentials, away tournaments, overnight camps, data sharing: send consent requests to parents by email, SMS, or WhatsApp from your dashboard in one tap. They respond from their phone. You see a live status for every child and every consent type, with a full GDPR-compliant audit trail. When the SGB auditor asks "can you prove you have photo permission for this under-14?", one click answers it.
Whether your title is Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer, Club Welfare Officer, or Safeguarding Lead, PVG Pal knows what your governing body wants. Your dashboard uses your SGB's terminology. The audit checklist matches your SGB's framework. The PDF report you hand to sportscotland or your SGB inspector is pre-populated from live data and carries their required fields. Most of it is answered before you open it.
The Church of Scotland is Scotland's largest congregational network and runs its own safeguarding architecture: SG03, SG07, Kirk Session oversight, Safeguarding Service submissions. PVG Pal handles all of it natively, with no plug-ins or workarounds.
Guided screen-by-screen wizard. PDF generated on-device and sent directly to the Safeguarding Service, and we never store the response.
Your compliance register fills itself from live volunteer data. Export for Kirk Session or Presbytery in one tap.
Church law blocks coordinators from processing their own relatives. PVG Pal detects the conflict and hands the application to a second seat or delegate via a kiosk-mode flow.
Versioned Code text, immutable acceptances, daily renewal cron. Every volunteer re-adopts annually, tracked automatically.
Volunteer app is always free. Switch or cancel anytime.
